Maggie Murdoch and Paul Fairweather – Positive Parenting

Maggie and Paul have worked together as trainers, consultants, and activists since 1991. During this time they have delivered specialist training and consultancy in Equality and Fairness in the recruitment and assessment of lesbians and gay men as foster and adoptive carers to more than 10 Local Authorities and Adoption/Fostering Agencies across the North of England and hosted a national conference with over 200 participants, on this subject. They were key members of the group who instigated, researched and designed the first set of practitioner guidelines for assessment of lesbians and gay men, which was adopted by Manchester City Council (2004/2007). As a result of this successful partnership work, in 2008 Manchester was named by BAAF as the national leader in the recruitment of lesbians and gay men to foster and adopt. They were also members of the team that created: Lesbian and Gay Fostering and Adoption: Extraordinary. Yet Ordinary (Eds) Hicks and McDermott 1998. Maggie worked as a Foster Carer for several years and Paul began his career in youth work. Paul is a Local Councillor who leads on Gay Men’s issues for Manchester City Council. Both come highly recommended as trainers and have worked passionately as equality specialists in the Public and Voluntary sector for many years.
