Can I adopt from another country?

International adoption accounts for a much smaller proportion of adoptions in the UK than you might imagine from the media coverage it receives.

And LGBT adopters almost certainly account for a smaller proportion still – less than 0.5% of our members have adopted a child from abroad whilst resident in the UK.

If you plan to adopt internationally you will be required to pay for your assessment process in UK, which amounts to several thousand pounds. You also have the question of which countries allow adoption by same-sex couples – or if you are adopting as a single person, whether to be open about your sexuality.
