A word from Tor

Dear NFS member

Huge thanks to all the volunteers and members who made this year’s camp the biggest yet! If you attended we hope you had a fantastic time – we’ll be in touch with you directly shortly to ask for feedback and we’re keen to hear what worked best for you and what you think are areas for improvement.

With best wishes for the fortnight ahead

Introducing a nurturing attachments group programme for LGBT+ adoptive parents

Adoptionplus’ new DDP nurturing attachments group programme is specifically for LGBT+ adoptive parents. You may know people who could be interested in the programme or feel your family could benefit from it. The Adoptionplus team will deliver the programme following training from NFS staff to make sure it’s tailored to meet the needs of adoptive parents who identify as LGBT+.

The programme’s designed to support group members in exploring how to manage their adopted child’s challenging behaviours. The programme’s rooted in dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP), which brings together attachment theory, developmental trauma and the neurobiology of trauma. LGBT+ attendees will explore how to manage challenging behaviours while maintaining a DDP attitude of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy. The 18 week programme costs £5,000 so it meets the Adoption Support Fund criteria and Adoptionplus is happy to liaise directly with the agencies of interested LGBT+ adoptive parents to assist with the application.

You can find out more information about the programme on the NFS site or if you have specific questions about it email

We’re heading to Reading!

New Family Social has a stand at Reading Pride for the first time on 1 September. If you’re attending or are in the area please come and say hi – or send your friends to us if they’re considering adoption or fostering! Find out more on the event listing.

Can you coordinate?

Our regional coordinator volunteers are key to helping us arrange events around the country. We’re always grateful to our members who are able to step up and fill these vital roles and we’re now on the lookout for volunteers in the South West, Home Counties North, London North & Northern Ireland to help coordinate activities in these regions and country! For more information email our volunteer coordinator James Mansfield-Sturgess:
